Armed Security Officer Course Package

Service Description

The Armed Security Officer Package consists of three courses (01E Core Security Officer, 05E Arrest Authority, 75E Security Officer Handgun) Monday-Friday for a total for 50 hours of training as certified by the Virginia Dept. of Criminal Justice Services to become registered as an Armed Security Officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. A comprehensive exam follows each of the three courses. The entry level curriculum for armed security officer/courier and alarm respondent sets forth the following areas identified as: I. Orientation to Security A. Code of Virginia and Regulations Relating to Private Security Services B. Code of Ethics and Law C. General Duties and Responsibilities D. Signs of Terrorism E. Security Patrol, Access Control, and Communications F. Documentation G. Emergency Procedures H. Confrontation Management and Use of force II. Arrest Authority Powers A. Policy B. Proceedures III. The security officer handgun classroom training will include but not be limited to the following: A. Practical handgun handling Identification of handgun parts Draw and Reholstering Ready position Loading Administrative loading; Tactical reloading; Rapid reloading Unloading Malfunctions Immediate actions procedures Remedial action Proper care and maintenance Firearms retention Ammunition identification and management Range safety Tactical considerations Movement Cover and concealment B. Fundamentals of marksmanship Grip Stance (position) Sight alignment Sight picture Trigger control Breathing Follow through C. Dim light/low light/reduced light practice and familiarization Identification of target/threat/background Unaided training and Aided training Flashlight use Reloading during low light conditions Malfunctions Range safety Tactical considerations Movement Cover and concealment Multiple target drills D. Use of force Deadly force Justifiable deadly force E. Liability Criminal liability Civil liability Negligent discharge prevention F. Judgmental shooting: judgmental shooting scenarios will be conducted in the classroom/range Shoot/don't shoot judgment Turn and fire drills
